John Wickham, LCSW
John believes that therapy should be a safe space where people can explore who they are and how they can overcome whatever obstacles they may face without judgment. He approaches his work with warmth, compassion, patience, and a sense of humor.
Clients can gain a greater sense of insight into who they are by reflecting on their identity, life experiences, and relationships with themselves and others. While John prioritizes self-exploration and insight, he also helps clients gain concrete skills with which they can empower themselves in the problem-solving process. John uses a variety of therapeutic modalities, including relational and psychodynamic frameworks, CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, and internal family systems.
John graduated with a BA from Macalester College, and received his MSW at Boston College. His background includes work with survivors of childhood trauma, gay and lesbian clients, trans and gender non-conforming (GNC) clients, older adults, survivors of religious persecution, as well as refugees and immigrants. Outside of therapy, his interests include reading, cooking (and eating), playing basketball and flag football, and taking long walks in the brutal Chicago winter.
