Lara Oppenheimer, LCPC, ATR
An empathetic and deep listener, Lara’s constant focus is for you to feel truly seen and understood. She invites your clarity and wisdom to emerge as she partners with you to explore challenges, highlight strengths and learn new skills for desired changes.
Drawing from depth psychology, cognitive psychology and trauma-informed somatic therapies within a relational-cultural framework, Lara addresses the body and the mind while considering cultural, intergenerational, and ecological contexts. She offers trauma-informed expressive therapies to build resilience, support self-regulation, and allow you to actively imagine and experiment with desired changes through self-expression.
Lara has several years of experience serving clients from multiple cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds and is committed to client-centered care and cultural competence. She strives to situate her practice within disability justice and liberation frameworks and is engaged in growing in cultural humility as a white and currently non-disabled queer therapist.
Lara received her Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In her personal artistic practice, she explores the relationships between creativity, care, self and community and enjoys solarpunk science fiction, sit spots, and soup.
